The government's plan to demolish the Royal Adelaide Hospital and rebuild it on the railway yards site does not have my support and will not get my vote in the next state election.
The RAH has been continuously developed on its present site over many years. While the hospital certainly needs new patient accommodation, I understand that most of its world-class treatment facilities have quite recently been brought up to state-of-the-art standard and have been valued at up to $1 billion. To destroy all this and move the hospital away from its present excellent site is a waste of money and just doesn't make sense to me. If you want to get some independent information about this and be more fully informed, visit www.savetherah.com.au
Apart from anything else, retaining the present RAH site will leave the railway yards free for other development ideas - many have already been suggested. Build a hospital on it, and it is lost forever.
