More For Less

All the Royal Adelaide Hospital needs is new wards!
With all the high cost areas of the Royal Adelaide Hospital now upgraded, new wards can be built on the existing site at a cost of approximately $700m (Rawlinson 2009).
Save $1 BILLION
By building new wards on the existing site, we can save $1 billion over the cost of building a brand new hospital, have a state of the art hospital and still enjoyall the benefits of the current site. In the current economic climate is it really wise to spent $1 billion we don't have to?
Here’s how it works:
| New Buildings On Existing RAH Site | Rawlinson’s 2009 Edition Costs/Estimates |
| Cost per square metre | $4,800 |
| Cost of each room Allow 10m x 10x for each Single Room with Ensuite |
$480,000 per single room with ensuite |
| Cost for 700 rooms in 2 or 3 buildings | $336 million for new building with 700 single rooms |
| Double the cost for generous escalation | $672 million |
This leaves $1.028 billion for Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Lyell McEwin Hospital, Modbury Hospital, Glenside and Mental Health, Country Health and Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Our entire State Healthcare System is upgraded and everybody wins!
And, we the people of South Australia retain the Railway yard land as an asset for the future.
